Are Online Directories the Best Way to Get Traffic - Home - technology

This is very new website so that means no inbound links from anywhere - which means no visitors. Many of the SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) experts say you should link from social media. Well I don't do social media so I looked for other way to do this for free.

As a general rule, any free directories will be dead, derelict, slightly dodgy, broken or require a sign-up and/or payment without https:// in the URL. Finding a working free directory took most of the day !

Any successful entries will be put below with clickable links :-

During my travels I came across this handy page written in June 2018 that lists over 130 free (ish) directories you can submit your blog to.

  1. http://www.9sites.net - This seemed to work, but have yet to receive a confirmation email.

  2. http://www.a1webdirectory.org - This initially worked but now seems to be mis-configured and wouldn't display properly !

  3. http://www.alistsites.com - This seemed to work OK and unlike the others this sent an email confirming me free entry would take 6 months to get accepted.

  4. http://www.ananar.com - This is the 4th one I submitted to, but have yet to receive a confirmation email.

  5. http://www.anoj.org/ - This is the 5th one I tried. It requires an link back to their website and also needs a full postal address. Because of bad coding it was impossible to submit any links to it.

  6. https://www.blogarama.com - This looked promising. The sign-up was easy, the submission was also easy and included a free option. Awaiting approval ...

  7. https://www.cipinet.com/ - Submission was straight forward so added this site to News_and_Media/E-zines - awaiting approval ...

  8. http://www.highrankdirectory.com/ - Awaiting test ...

  9. https://fuelmyblog.com - Awaiting test ...

  10. http://homepageseek.com/ - Submission was straight forward so I added this site - awaiting approval ...

  11. http://www.info-listings.com/ - Submission was straight forward so I added this site - awaiting approval ...

  12. http://www.ranaf.com/" - Submission was straight forward so I tried to add this site. I needed to put in a reciprocal link so that was done. It all fell apart when I realised that CAPTURE code wasn't working making it impossible to continue .. oh well, back to the drawing board !

  13. https://www.sites-plus.com/ - Submission was straight forward and the latest site was added June 2019 so I added this site - awaiting approval ...

  14. https://somuch.com/ - A simple & functional website. The submission process went cleanly. I'm waiting for the confirmation email to arrive ...

  15. http://www.w3catalog.com/ - It allowed free submission but got the following error: "The URL could not be validated. Either the page does not exist or the server could not be contacted" - I changed the "https://" to "http://" and it seemed to work.

While I was poking around the web trying to find info on Blogarama, I came across this handy list entitled "10 Blog Directories You Should Be Listed in" - I decided to try out a few below :-

  • http://technorati.com/ - redirects to https://www.synacor.com/ A bit more Googling revealed that Technorati was sold to Synacor in 2016.

  • http://www.blogflux.com - Requires a sign-up ( without https:// !! ) so I bailed-out !

  • http://www.globeofblogs.com/ - Just gave me a database error - moving on ...

  • http://www.blogexplosion.com/ - Just gave me a white screen - moving on ...

  • http://www.superblogdirectory.com/ - Got a website up with a broken image.

  • http://www.bloggeries.com - Modern looking website. One year is $75.

  • http://www.spillbean.com/ - Very plain but functional website. "Submit Website" takes you to another website http://www.sutradirectory.com/ which requires payment from $24.99 to $149.99 per year.
